WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A person is dead after a shooting broke out during an arrest warrant in Columbia Heights Thursday morning, according to D.C. police.
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said the incident involved an officer with the Capital Area Regional Task Force.

The shooting took place in the 1400 block of Girard St. NW, just before 7 a.m., where officers with the Capital Area Regional Task Force were serving an arrest warrant. Police noted that the warrant was for someone who supposedly was tied to a homicide that occurred on Minnesota Avenue on Sunday, Oct. 5.
During a news conference, officials said that as Capital Area Regional Task Force (CARTF) officers breached the door, the suspect and members of the task force began to exchange gunfire.
The suspect was struck multiple times and died from his injuries at the scene. Their name and age have not been released as of Thursday.
