Pet alligator from Prince George’s County finds a new home in Thurmont

THURMONT, Md. (DC News Now) — An alligator found living in Prince George’s County has a new home at a wildlife preserve in Frederick County.

The Catoctin Wildlife Preserve in Thurmont took the four-and-a-half-foot gator several weeks ago, after the exotic pet’s owner died and its family surrendered him to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Police last month.

Charges pending after alligator signs pop up in Takoma Park, police say

DNR Police said they were first contacted about the alligator back on Oct. 29, where police say he “was living inside a residence, kept in a climate-controlled room with an open enclosure,” in the Colmar Manor area.

“While it’s illegal to privately possess American alligators in Maryland, the family made the right choice by contacting NRP and surrendering the gator,” the department said in a Facebook post…
