When Kani Bassey saw Friday morning that Montgomery County public schools were opening on time despite a forecast of light snow and freezing temperatures, she got her sixth-grade student ready for classes at John T. Baker Middle School in Damascus.
But 90 minutes after her daughter boarded a school bus, she still hadn’t arrived at school because the bus was stuck on an icy back road, Bassey told Bethesda Today on Friday.
“Ironically, she ended up having a two-hour delay because she was sitting on a bus stuck due to the roads not being prepared for buses,” Bassey said. “Those kids were stuck on that one bus for two hours. That was not the only bus in our county that was stuck this morning. I think it was a horrible call for Montgomery County to not, at least have a delay.”…
