Metro, other rail traffic halted in downtown Silver Spring due to downed wires

Service on the Metro Red Line in both directions expected to be delayed Tuesday afternoon after a downed wire caused a halt to all rail traffic in downtown Silver Spring, according to social media posts from a Montgomery County fire department spokesperson and Metro officials.

At about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday, Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) spokesperson Pete Piringer said on social media that wires were down across train tracks that carry CSX trains, such as freight trains, at the intersection of Second Avenue and Fenwick Lane in downtown Silver Spring.
