More than 10,000 gallons of sewer water overflows in Adelphi

ADELPHI, Md. (7News) — A sanitary sewer overflow in the Adelphi area of Prince George’s County on Sunday was caused by a blockage from flushable wipes and heavy rags, according to WSSC Water.

More than 10,000 gallons of untreated wastewater overflowed from a manhole near 3207 Cherry Mill Drive. It was discovered by crews around 4:30 p.m. and cleared at 10:15 p.m.

The wastewater entered a storm drain that flows into Paint Branch Creek, and crews continue to clean up the affected area. Residents should avoid the area…
