WASHINGTON — Over the weekend, crews with WSSC worked for hours to contain a sanitary sewer overflow in Adelphi. The overflow was detected at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday near Cherry Mill Drive.
It took crews nearly six hours to contain the overflow; by then, an estimated 10,386 gallons of untreated wastewater had overflowed from a manhole, running off into Paint Branch Creek. At 10:15 p.m., it was completely contained.
