‘That’s shameful’ : Sheriffs respond to new law banning local agreements with ICE

MARYLAND (WBFF) — Governor Wes Moore recently signed a new bill banning 287(g) agreements between local jurisdictions and ICE and Sheriffs across the state have been outspoken about public safety concerns.

However, despite their pushback, as of Wednesday, it does not appear they will file legal action against the measure.

“Sadly, our state and our Governor has decided to side with criminals instead of with law abiding citizens, and against 54% of what Marylanders wanted on having these sorts of agreements,” said Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler, following a meeting of sheriffs on Wednesday. “And as a result of today, we have no pending legal action. You know, the advice we’ve received so far is that, the way it’s been done that we really don’t have a challenge. We’re still going to continue research to see if we can come up with a way to challenge what Maryland has decided to do. So that effort will go forth, but it’s not forthcoming today or any any immediate action that we see.”…
