SILVER SPRING, Md. (DC News Now) — The Montgomery County Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 35 is calling on lawmakers to create stricter penalties for people involved in illegal street takeovers, following a chaotic incident in Silver Spring that left two police cruisers vandalized.
Union leaders said current laws are not strong enough to deter participants and argue that harsher consequences are needed to protect both officers and the community.
“We were outraged. It was a very disturbing scene,” said Lauren Washington, communications specialist for Lodge 35.
