Renovations coming to Reading Terminal Market

Reading Terminal Market’s getting an upgrade ahead of the influx of visitors expected this summer for the big 2026 events.

Why it matters: The 133-year-old market is classic Philly and among the region’s top tourist destinations, drawing more than 5,000,000 people a year.

State of play: The $350,000 upgrades are underway to revamp roughly 5,000 square feet of the market’s public seating areas.

  • That includes the Center Court, where the Philbert the Pig statue is located among seats and tables.

1 cool thing: Regulars to the market during the lunch rush can rest assured that no public seating will be closed during the renovation.

Zoom in: The project includes new:

  • 🔨 Flooring
  • 🪑 Seating, which will be ADA accessible
  • 👟 Tweaks to improve walkability and ease bottlenecking inside those pedestrian-heavy areas.
