Prince George’s officer credited with saving woman after jump from Wilson Bridge

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. (7News) — A Prince George’s County police officer is being hailed as a hero after rescuing a woman who jumped from the Woodrow Wilson Bridge into the Potomac River early Friday evening.

Cpl. John Clayton of the department’s Marine Unit responded within minutes, navigating to the woman as she struggled in the cold water. Video recorded from the shoreline showed her waving for help as Clayton approached in his patrol boat.

“My first reaction was to get there as quickly as possible,” Clayton said. “I knew it could be a matter of minutes before somebody’s life is saved or somebody’s is ended.”…
