GOP governor run-off; Rounds GOP Senate nominee; Storms

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Here’s a look at today’s top stories for KELOLAND On the Go.

Early Wednesday morning and more than 100% of the precincts fully reporting, a run-off race for the GOP nominee for governor is set between Toby Doeden and Larry Rhoden. As of 3:00 a.m., 100% of the state’s 686 precincts had reported. Doeden has 41,831 votes compared to Rhoden with 34,389 votes, Dusty Johnson with 31,959 and Jon Hansen with 28,409.

Voters in South Dakota’s largest city will help pick who will be the 33rd mayor of Sioux Falls. Christine Erickson was in the lead at 36% (7,672), Jamie Smith is in second with 30% (6,374) Greg Jamison was the next closest at 18% (3,842), the next closest was Joe Batcheller (3,175) at 15% and lastly David Zokaites at 2% (343).

Mike Rounds was declared the winner of the U.S. Senate GOP primary by the Associated Press Tuesday night. Results as of 8:15 CST showed Rounds with 77% of the vote. Challenger Justin McNeal has 23%, according to the Secretary of State’s website.
