One of Sioux Falls’ most active school board members traveled to Washington D.C. this month to advocate for greater public funding for public schools.
Dawn Marie Johnson, who was re-elected for a secondterm on the board in the June 2 primary, went to D.C. June 6-10, with Alliance to Reclaim Our Schools, a coalition of public education supporters fighting for full funding of public education in the U.S.
Federal budget proposals in the works for next year include $7.3 billionin cuts to K-12 public education funding, including for Title I grants for schools with the highest levels of poverty, English learner services, afterschool programs and more.
