SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)– Temperatures cooled off on Tuesday across KELOLAND after a cold front moved through. It was much needed, as above-average high temperatures have dominated in KELOLAND recently.
From July 10 to the 20, Rapid City only had high temperatures at or above 90 degrees. That 11-day streak has gone down in the record books as the ninth longest on record. During that time, the area also proceeded to break three record highs.
Typically, Rapid City sees about a dozen days of at least 90 degrees, but it has already surpassed that mark with 15 as of July 20. Other locations, including Aberdeen, Pierre, and Sioux Falls, are right around or slightly below their average.
Those totals will look to climb even higher this month as another ridge moves in for the weekend. More heat is on the way, and it is expected to linger into the start of next week…
