Sioux Falls grows fleet of robotic mowers

Multiple times each week, drivers on Minnesota Avenue south of 57th Street will catch a glimpse of a motorized companion along the boulevard.

A small robotic mower traverses back and forth, trimming the median by one-half inch of grass at a time so a city worker is spared the task.

“Medians are a difficult spot to mow,” said Brett Kollars, interim director of Sioux Falls Parks & Recreation. “It’s an inefficient operation. You have to load a trailer … and it’s not the safest place to mow.”
