SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – People across the country and world are remembering country music legend Dolly Parton, who has died at the age of 80.
Known for songs such as ‘9 to 5’, ‘Jolene ‘, and ‘I Will Always Love You’, Parton was also a philanthropist who started programs like the Imagination Library.
It was because of that program that Parton paid South Dakota a visit back in 2002. She stopped by the Washington Pavilion in Sioux Falls to help promote the Imagination Library.

“A lot of my people were not able to read and write, though, and I got inspired to do this because my father, who was one of the smartest people I’ve ever known, couldn’t read and write,” Parton said during an interview with KELOLAND in 2002. “Many of the mountain people were like that, and so this was very dear to my heart to get involved with education.”…
