SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO)–Just because we’re in meteorological fall does not mean severe weather can’t happen, because in KELOLAND we’re all too familiar with severe weather going late into the year.
The obvious example is seven years ago on September 10th, 2019, when three tornadoes touched down in Sioux Falls. Not only did three tornadoes late in the season seem rare, but these happened well after sunset.
According to the Storm Prediction Center, in South Dakota, we average 36 severe weather reports in September. It breaks down into 2 tornado reports, 20 severe wind reports, and 14 severe hail reports.
But September is an all-or-nothing month when it comes to severe weather. While some years have been quiet, with very little in the way of severe weather, others have been active, with many severe weather reports…
