SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — We had a couple of strong to severe storms earlier this morning in central KELOLAND, including a storm that produced a 66 mph gust at Okobojo Creek Rec Area in Sully County. Otherwise, the main story was the fog that we had to deal with. Fortunately, both have since departed and quieter weather has been enjoyed by many this afternoon.
We should stay pretty quiet to the east overnight, but West River locations may get in on a few showers and thunderstorms. This is as a cold front makes its move eastward through Monday and into Tuesday. While we should stay dry to the east on Monday, areas to the west should see scattered showers and storms through the day.
Those rain chances push eastward through the night and into Tuesday. The rain may be heavy at times, with a “Slight Risk” for excessive rain in place for Tuesday across a good portion of southeastern KELOLAND.
Wednesday may also feature a chance for rain in southeastern KELOLAND, but that depends on how far north a front can jog and send moisture into the area. To the north and west, we should have a mainly dry day.
As we start October, everyone gets in on a mainly dry run of weather. Beyond a few showers here and there on Friday to the southeast, it’s looking good for the harvest as we head into the start of the month. We could use several dry days to let the ground soak everything in, and we should get just that as we head deeper into fall.
