Broins donate 20 acres for Great Bear

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Jeff and Tammie Broin said they bought land next to Great Bear Recreation Area in Sioux Falls with the intent to give some acres to the city.

On Tuesday, city officials said the donated 20.5 acres will be used to expand Great Bear. The additional 20 acres will increase the park’s size to 240 acres. It will help the park continue to expand its value as a year-round recreation area, officials said.

Jeff Broin is the CEO and founder of POET, a biofuels refinery system.

The donated land is behind the ski hill at Great Bear.

The value of the land donation was not released Tuesday, but Mayor Christine Erickson told KELOLAND News it was “priceless.” The donation allows the park to expand its footprint, but it also preserves and conserves valuable green space in the city, she said…
