SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The early morning commute was a challenge for drivers in parts of KELOLAND.
After a Monday full of sunshine and warmer temperatures, many drivers were surprised to find slick roads on their Tuesday morning commute. This crash in Sioux Falls is an example. The driver of the black SUV lost control, ran over a speed limit sign, and grazed this building on 12th Street near Western Avenue. The driver was okay, but the SUV suffered heavy damage.
“Yesterday was sunny out, there is a lot of melting that goes on and people I think were starting to get used to driving on wet pavement but you have to remember at night that wet pavement is going to freeze,” said Sam Clemens with the Sioux Falls Police Department.
Outside of Sioux Falls, fog was thick in places and drivers reported scattered slippery spots, the kind that can catch you off guard.
Gene Hammerstrom of Harrisburg was running an errand for his wife when we caught up with him.
“Foggy, a little slippery, I suppose there is, but if you take your time, no problem. Just don’t be in a hurry.”
