SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — From streets to sidewalks, it’s been a slippery few days in KELOLAND.

The fog and freezing temperatures are adding up to trouble on sidewalks.

Amy Kimber had a slippery morning in her neighborhood while she was walking her dog.

“Like an ice skating rink actually,” Kimber said.

Sioux Falls city ordinance says property owners have 48 hours to clear their sidewalks after a snowfall or ice accumulation.

“The buildup of ice any given night especially with the pattern we’re in might just be from freezing fog and that’s a little bit more difficult to respond to from our perspective because we first want to make sure the sidewalk has been shoveled,” Sioux Falls assistant director of planning and development services Kevin Smith said.

In fact, the city is still following up on sidewalk complaints stemming from last week’s snow.

“We’re getting a fair number of complaints that just haven’t been shoveled at all,” Smith said.
