Augie suffers heartbreaking loses to open Midco Arena

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Augustana dropped its first two games at Midco Arena this weekend.

After falling 5-2 in the opener, the Vikings dropped a 4-3 overtime contest Saturday night. The Vikes trailed 3-2 with less than 2 minutes to go in regulation. Arnaud Vachon netted the equalizer to force the extra period, but Augie then gave up the game-winner three minutes into overtime.

“We’re not yet comfortable playing the game when emotions elevate,” Augustana head coach Garrett Raboin said. “I can’t tell you when it’s going to come, but I know living through them is going to help us get there.”

The Vikings are now 7-14-3 on the season. They visit Bemidji State next week before returning home to host St. Thomas on Feb. 9 and 10.
