‘There could be a violent situation,’ Noem said. ‘But there also could be areas where we need to take legal action as governors to protect our states’
GOP South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem on Sunday said there could be a “violent situation” on the Texas border during a tense exchange with CNN host Dana Bash over the border dispute between Texas and the Biden administration.
“There could be a violent situation,” Noem said as Texas officials continue to erect razor wire after a Supreme Court ruling that federal agents were allowed to remove the barrier. “But there also could be areas where we need to take legal action as governors to protect our states.”
“I’m willing to put that on the table to make sure we are protecting the freedoms that we have always had ever since this country was founded.”
Making an appearance on CNN’s State of the Union , the governor reiterated her support for Texas, mentioning she would send her state’s National Guard to the border to help.
“I’m proud of what Texas has done, proud to stand with them,” said Noem. “I deployed my National Guard down there three times and we will do what we can to help them support and defend their people.”
