SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — For months, Senator John Thune has been calling for action to improve security at the southern U.S. border. It may arrive this weekend in the form of bipartisan legislation.
Senator Thune says there is a lot of speculation on what the new border legislation includes.
He knows the general information but, like everyone else, is waiting to hear what the specific language includes.

“When the text comes out, if it’s what I think is going to be in there, you are going to have a whole bunch of new authorities and new tools, you are going to have an expedited removal authority, you are going to have limitations on mass parole, you are going to have reforms to asylum which is something that the Trump administration had asked for when they were in office. All tools that would be available to the next president”, said Thune.
Thune says he will reserve judgment until he sees the final text. However, he says if the language is strong enough, the deal will have a chance, but in the end, it always comes down to votes.
