39-year-old Brandon man killed in Interstate 29 crash

LINCOLN COUNTY, S.D. (KELO) — A fiery crash on Interstate 29 Wednesday afternoon killed one man.

A news release from the Department of Public Safety says the crash happened at 4:08 p.m. at mile marker 66, six miles south of Tea.

Authorities say a 39-year-old Brandon man was driving a 2005 Ford F-250 northbound when the vehicle left the roadway to the east, entered onto the shoulder and struck the guard cables and guard rail before going airborne into the overpass pillar. The vehicle then started on fire.

The driver died at the scene. There were no passengers in the pickup. His name is not being released pending notification of family members.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash; all information released so far is only preliminary.
