An 18-year-old resident of Inwood found himself in police custody on Wednesday, Feb. 7, facing charges related to drug possession.
Michael Jayden DeWeerd, 306 W. Church St. Inwood resident, was apprehended around noon following a call regarding a family issue, as reported by the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
The arrest was prompted by the discovery of THC vaping devices among DeWeerd’s belongings by a family member while performing laundry duties. Upon confrontation, DeWeerd admitted to being aware of the items in his room and acknowledged their THC content, according to the incident report.
Subsequent testing confirmed the presence of THC in the liquid contained within the vaping device.
DeWeerd now faces charges of first-offense possession of a controlled substance — marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The incident highlights the importance of vigilance within households and the need for continued efforts to address substance abuse issues within communities.
Authorities are actively investigating the matter further, and DeWeerd’s case will proceed through the legal system as more details emerge.
