Purple wig given to South Dakota five-year-old undergoing treatment

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.(KELO) – Patients who receive cancer treatment at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls can get one free wig from the hospital’s boutique. A five-year-old girl recently diagnosed with Leukemia did just that in her favorite color…purple!

Sam Bennett took her five-year-old daughter Kinsley to the hospital in October for what she thought were growing pains.

“Had some leg pain in the middle of the night. My neighbors, kids, same age, same thing, you know. So we’re like, ‘oh, they’re just growing,’” Sam said.

Just days later she found out Kinsley had leukemia.

“For us, it was a shock, but I had a little bit of like this mom feeling on that Sunday like something’s just off,” Sam said.

Like many who undergo cancer treatment, Kinsley started to lose her hair.

“It was hard. I hid some tears when she was first. You start brushing their hair and you’re noticing chunks are coming out,” said Bennett. “So it was a sudden thing. But she was pretty adamant that she wanted to look for purple hair.”
