Soils Fields Specialist and farmer discusses the impact of recent rainfall

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – After a long stretch of dry weather, recent rainfalls have been welcomed by farmers around the region. “We’re just coming off of two dryer years and we’ve tapped our subsoil moisture pretty extensively. I’m quite happy to see that it can rain again and try to fill up the landscape, and when I say that I mean just not the topsoil where the crop roots are, but deeper than that. We need to fill up the landscape and that water resource is very important, as all ag people know,” said Anthony Bly, Soils Field Specialist for SDSU Extension.
