Sioux Falls Regional Airport opens new parking ramp: Take a look inside

Sioux Falls officials cut the ribbon to the Sioux Falls Regional Airport’s new parking ramp Monday afternoon, concluding the 18-month construction of the ramp, which contains nearly 1,000 parking spaces as well as an enclosed skywalk to the airport.

The parking garage, and its approximately 950 new spots, officially opens for travelers Tuesday, though the airport’s Executive Director Dan Letellier said that the skywalk won’t be open for another two weeks or so as construction is finished.

Mayor Paul TenHaken said the project reflected well on the leadership of the airport, which — contrary to what people may believe, he said — is largely independent from the city.

“We have a really, really well-run airport,” TenHaken said.

The $63 million project was announced in early 2020, when it was expected to cost only $25 million.

Letellier thanked travelers for their patience during construction, which required closing the airport’s short-term lot and limiting the long-term lot to 67% capacity, though another 500 spaces of surface parking were added during the ramp’s construction.
