A Sioux Falls man has been arrested for the August shooting at Dunham Park, according to a press release from Sioux Falls Police Department Sgt. Sean Kooistra.
Walter Deshawn Stewart, 32, was arrested at 1:30 p.m. Friday in connection to the shooting that killed 29-year-old Joshau Allen and injured three others, according to the press release.
Stewart is charged with one count of murder in the first degree, one count of attempted murder in the first degree, and two counts of aggravated assault, according to the press release.
Officers were called shortly before 4:30 p.m. Aug. 25 to Dunham Park in the 1300 block of South Marion Road, Sioux Falls Police Department spokesperson Sam Clemens said previously.
Police said there was a large gathering at the scene, and the people involved knew each other. It’s still unclear at this time why the group of people were gathered in the area and what the motive behind the shooting was.
Clemens said multiple shell casings of differing calibers were found at the scene. It’s also unclear whether Stewart is the only suspect in the case.
