SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Plenty of cold weather is on the way as we head into the first weekend of the New Year. We’ll also have some snowy conditions in place as low pressure begins to make its move through the Northern Plains.
A winter weather advisory remains in place until 12 pm CST/11 am MST Sunday for portions of central, south-central, western and northwestern KELOLAND.
While snow can sneak into the southern Missouri River valley going into the night and Sunday morning, the bulk of the wintry weather is expected near and west of the river. Totals in central and western KELOLAND may reach 2-5″ with a few isolated higher amounts near 3-6″. To the southeast, we may see an inch or two toward Yankton, with little to no accumulation expected from Sioux Falls into northeastern South Dakota.
Cold and dry air will be the saving grace for areas that don’t see snow today, but it’s little solace considering just how cold it’ll be through the weekend and even into the start of next week.
