Construction Set to Resume on on I-229 Project in Sioux Falls

Now that spring is here, it’s time for the resumption of an ongoing construction project on Interstate 229 in Sioux Falls.

Beginning Monday (April 7) the latest phase of the interchange reconstruction work at Cliff Avenue (Exit 4) will begin with the installation of additional lighting, signals, and mainline Interstate work. The interchange will be reconstructed as a single-point urban interchange, which will include two structural replacements. The southbound I-229 lanes and one structure will be constructed this year, and the northbound lanes and second structure will be built in 2026.

Starting Monday, northbound traffic on I-229 will be diverted onto the northbound diversion and temporary bridge. During the first full week of April, motorists should plan for nighttime lane closures to allow crews to install traffic control devices, concrete barriers, and pavement markings along northbound I-229.
