{KXLG – Hamlin County, SD} The South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources (DANR) is recommending approval of Water Permit Application No. 8928-3 for Promises Kept LLLP, located in Sioux Falls, SD. Acting Chief Engineer Mark Mayer, PE, has recommended the approval, which includes specific qualifications to ensure responsible water usage and careful monitoring of the well’s operation.
The proposed permit would allow Promises Kept LLLP to divert water from a well in Hamlin County, approximately three miles southeast of Castlewood, SD. The well is planned to draw water from the Prairie Coteau aquifer, a significant underground water source in the region, at a maximum instantaneous diversion rate of 1.97 cubic feet per second. This rate of withdrawal is intended to support the irrigation of 240 acres, contributing to agricultural productivity in the area. The permit specifies that the water extracted is to be used for irrigation purposes.
