Sioux Falls, S.D. – Holiday celebrations across eastern South Dakota could be cut short Friday evening as strong thunderstorms threaten to sweep across the region between 5 p.m. and 3 a.m. Saturday. The National Weather Service has issued a Level 1 out of 5 risk for severe storms, with the greatest chance of activity west of I-29 during fireworks hours.
According to the US National Weather Service Sioux Falls office, the storms are expected to move eastward overnight. The primary hazard will be wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph, capable of damaging tents, inflatables, or unsecured items at outdoor events. While tornado and hail risks remain low, isolated downpours and lightning could further complicate travel and gatherings.
