Lots of us around the Sioux Empire were woken up by a line of thunderstorms that blew through the area overnight.
Throughout Wednesday (July 9), a cold front moved west to east across South Dakota, pushing a line of sometimes severe thunderstorms ahead of it. A little after midnight on Thursday, the storms moved through the Sioux Falls area, bringing wind, small hail, and lots of rain.

According to preliminary reports, Thursday morning, western Sioux Falls caught the brunt of the rain with nearly an inch and a half of precipitation.
