Wasps are swarming KELOLAND

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — If you’re going to be outside this weekend, keep an eye out for stingers in the sky.

Parts of KELOLAND have seen an increase in wasp activity. But not all wasps are built the same.

“Cicada killer is a solitary wasp, and they’re quite different. Actually. They’re a lot bigger. They’ll create a little hole in the ground, and they’ll have multiple tunnels in it, and they’ll use their stinger to paralyze the cicada. And they bring it down in these holes, multiple holes. That’s where the babies will eat off of that cicada,” said Ryan Anderson, owner of Anderson’s Pest Control.

Anderson says in just the last two weeks, he has started to get calls for cicada killers. Both Cicada killers and sand wasps peak activity is in the mid to late summer…
