Man sentenced to 3 years for bunker machine gun

SIOUX FALLS S.D. (KELO) — There’s an update on a federal court case involving a hidden bunker, homemade machine guns and thousands of rounds of ammo.

A judge has sentenced 63-year-old Ray Steele to three years behind bars for unlawful possession of a machine gun.

He’ll also have three years of supervised release. The case stems from a tip that someone was buying him parts to build guns and convert semi-automatic rifles into machine guns in his basement.

The 2024 investigation turned up seven guns, along with a hidden bunker where he stored ammo, a gun safe, food rations, gas masks and more. The Lead man wasn’t allowed to have a gun because of past crimes in South Dakota and California…
