First Alert Safety Check: Keeping strays safe in the summer heat

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – This summer, the Sioux Falls Area Humane Society has continued to find itself over capacity for dogs. One of the reasons for this is due to stray holds; currently, they have 46 strays in their care, but officials encourage you to still call in for strays, especially in the summer heat.

SFAHS Humane Officer, Taran McLain, explained, “Someone can either call Sioux Falls animal control or us, can get them located, and come out and pick them up. Even though we are pretty full, we are still contracted to pick up stray animals no matter what happens, so we just do our best to push for adoptions and fosters to help make space.”

While waiting for a humane officer to assist with a stray, you can do your part to keep them cool. However, it’s advised that you only do so in a safe manner…
