It is not all that often that I receive a comment or question regarding one of my columns. I do, however, always enjoy hearing from or visiting in person with one of our readers, and a couple weeks ago was an example.
It was a question I had never been asked, and in retrospect, I wondered why. It is a fair query and probably should have been the topic of a column – especially when one considers that 40 years of publication is a long time.
“Jim, over the years you have written many times about your time and experiences at the Sioux Falls Stockyards, which is good. However, several of those years of your Stockyards life were spent as a cattle buyer for Greenlee Packing Co. I can’t remember a column about those years at that plant. It would be fun to learn a bit more about a day in that life.”…
