SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — A significant outbreak of severe weather struck KELOLAND last night. Severe winds, large hail, and tornadoes were all reported in the region.

Latest forecast and damage reports across KELOLAND

Here’s a look at some of the initial damage reports. The numbers in the middle column represent wind gusts in miles per hour and hail size measured in inches in diameter.

10:40 PM UPDATE:

Gusty winds and possible embedded tornadic activity will continue to be something to monitor as we head into the night…especially in NW Iowa from Spencer/Lake Okoboji and all points east.

Severe thunderstorm watches remain in place until 1 am CDT Tuesday morning for NW Iowa, SW Minnesota, and extreme SE South Dakota.

It has been a very active night across KELOLAND. From several reports of tornadoes and funnel clouds to damaging hail and wind gusts in excess of 80 to 90 mph, we’ve seen a little bit of everything across the region.

As storms gradually move out of the area, clean-up efforts will be able to begin…but not before we have a few morning showers and storms to contend with to the southeast. After that, the weather should cooperate nicely with any attempt to clean up after our very active Monday afternoon/evening/night…
