Organization to have ICE observer training for public

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) – In response to ICE raids in cities across the country and right here in KELOLAND, South Dakota Voices for Peace (SDVFP) posted that it will be having an ICE observer training class rom 6-7:30 p.m. on July 31 at the downtown library in Sioux Falls.

“While you can’t stop ICE from making arrests, you can still learn how to effectively record and document the events of an ICE arrest or raid,” SDVFP wrote in its post.

SDVFP provides many resources to help educate South Dakotans on the rights that immigrants have in our country, and how to navigate the current, ever-changing system.

SDVFP has highlighted before the rights that people have, regardless of immigration status.

  • The right to remain silent.
  • The right to not sign anything without consulting a lawyer first.
  • The right to ask officers if they’re local police or immigration enforcement.
  • The right to not open your door to an ICE agent.
  • The right to ask if you’re free to go.

ICE is not allowed to enter a persons home without a warrant, and if they do have a warrant, it must be signed by a judge…
