SFFR awards 4th grader for heroic pool rescue

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Students at Adventure Elementary were curious why the Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was visiting them Friday afternoon. That includes 4th grader Avery Antonen who had no idea it was all for her.

“Then I saw a bunch of firefighters… and I saw my parents and I’m like, what did I do wrong?” Antonen said.

Like many 9-year-olds, Avery spent a lot of her summer at the pool. But back in June, a fun day turned into something serious.
