Jay Trobec celebrates 40 years at KELOLAND

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — KELOLAND is celebrating the anniversary of a longtime employee who’s worn many hats around the station.

KELOLAND’s Chief Meteorologist Jay Trobec is celebrating 40 years at the news organization. But not all of those years were spent as a meteorologist. Trobec spent several years as a news reporter at KELOLAND.

Jay came to the station in 1985. He started his television career very differently. He was a sportscaster in North Dakota, and then moved to KELOLAND to work in the news department. He transitioned to the Storm Center full-time in the 1990s…
