Claims $136,000 from casino using false ID

LARCHWOOD—A 49-year-old Worthington, MN, man was arrested Tuesday morning, Sept. 16, on Lyon County warrants for using another man’s identity to claim more than $135,000 in winnings from Grand Falls Casino & Golf Resort northwest of Larchwood.

The arrest of Cerritos Julio Mejia stemmed from an El Paso, TX, man contacting Grand Falls Casino to report his identity was being used to claim jackpot winnings, according to the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation.

The Texan said the Internal Revenue Service had contacted him stating he owed more than $20,000 in back taxes for winnings from Grand Falls Casino in 2021…
