SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — Governor Larry Rhoden has declared the month of October to be Archives Month in South Dakota.
Nationally celebrated each year, the month aims to highlight the importance of archival work.

“Through these archives, future generations of South Dakotans can more accurately study the past, learn from the accomplishments of their predecessors, trace their ancestors, and understand their community’s heritage while celebrating the history of our state,” Rhoden said in a news release.
The South Dakota State Archives reopened to the public on July 7 and encourages researchers to tour the newly renovated space.
