Casey’s buys 4 c-stores in South Dakota from Maverik

Dive Brief:

  • Casey’s General Stores has acquired four Kum & Go c-stores from Maverik in South Dakota, a Casey’s spokesperson confirmed to C-Store Dive.
  • All of the sites are located in Sioux Falls, the spokesperson said, adding that each store has already been converted to a Casey’s and features the company’s full slate of offerings. The sale was first reported by the Argus Leader.
  • This comes just days after Casey’s confirmed its acquisition of Maverik’s eight remaining c-stores in Michigan. The Utah retailer continues to sell dozens of Kum & Go locations amid its integration of the chain it bought in 2023.

Dive Insight:

Maverik began selling Kum & Go sites in the Midwest earlier this summer when it offloaded 23 locations to Omaha-based Mega Saver. While most of those locations were in Iowa, three of them were in Sioux Falls, a spokesperson from Mega Saver confirmed to C-Store Dive at the time.

The website also notes that Kum & Go’s last remaining location in South Dakota is in Elk Point, a small town about 70 miles south of Sioux Falls. This is the same location that Maverik revealed last month will be rebranded to its own banner in late November. Meanwhile, Maverik’s website notes that the Utah retailer has two locations in South Dakota, both in Rapid City, about 350 miles west of Sioux Falls…
