Sioux Falls Police announces new campaign

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The Sioux Falls Police Department is planning on launching a new social media campaign in October regarding stolen items from cars.

According to Sioux Falls Police Spokesman Sgt. Aaron Benson, the campaign’s name is “Light It Up, Lock It Up,” a reminder for people to turn on their lights and lock their car doors to prevent car break-ins.

“This came about during National Night Out. One of the community leaders brought (the concept) up to one of our community resource officers about lighting up your house, inside or outside,” Benson said.

Benson said the “majority” of car break-ins and thefts are from unlocked car doors…
