Third wave of Operation: Prairie Thunder complete

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The third set of patrols in Sioux Falls was completed on Sept. 19 as part of Operation: Prairie Thunder.

Operation: Prairie Thunder describes its Sioux Falls patrol as two main components:

  • “A targeted anti-crime initiative in the Sioux Falls metro to interdict drugs, investigate gang activity, hold parole absconders accountable, and deter lawlessness”
  • “A comprehensive effort to support the work of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to secure our borders.”

According to the cumulative reports by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, there are over 187 total individuals in custody, including 131 with a drug charge.

The report also states that 30 individuals have been contacted and interviewed regarding ICE, including 17 who are currently in custody…
