Sheriff Mike Milstead commends Mayor Paul TenHaken’s efforts to approve the construction of the men’s prison in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO.com) — Area law enforcement are celebrating a decline in crime numbers, but they recognize building a new men’s prison in Sioux Falls will probably bring more crime to city streets in the future. As they released the semi-annual crime statistics report this week, Sheriff Mike Milstead took time to commend Mayor Paul TenHaken for his actions to make way for the prison to be built in the city.

The Sheriff served on the Task Force that recommended the prison plan. During that process, he says it became apparent that if a prison wasn’t allowed to be built in Sioux Falls, the state probably wouldn’t be able to find a peaceable location anywhere in the state, and a new prison probably wouldn’t be built.
