Sioux Falls National Weather Service Stays Open To Protect Life

As the federal government shutdown enters its sixth day, employees at the Sioux Falls National Weather Service continue reporting to work without paychecks.

The shutdown began on September 30, 2025, when Congress failed to pass necessary funding legislation.

While most federal operations have ground to a halt and thousands of workers face furloughs, meteorologists and support staff at our local NWS office maintain their round-the-clock watch over South Dakota’s skies.
