RAPID CITY, S.D. (KELO) — Following years of planning, there are massive upgrades at the Ice Arena at The Monument in Rapid City.
This latest phase of projects at the arena costs around $900,000.

“To make them more energy efficient, and run a little smoother. The plexiglass replacements, we’re changing out our tempered glass to plexiglass. Then we added a blownose to the top of the dashers, anything we can do to help keep player safety on the ice and then the final phase of that was lighting controls and new lighting fixtures,” Monument Engineering Manager Rory Hammerbeck said.
“So the lighting that we’ve done is going to improve all of those sorts of things. Our compressors, again, you know, any time we have an event during hockey season the ice doesn’t go away. The ice stays there, it’s covered up with a very detailed decking system to help preserve the ice so that we can use it for multiple purposes,” Monument Deputy Director Tracy Heitsch said.
It was all paid for by The Monument’s funds…
